We Choose To Give Thanks Job 1:6-11
Read Job 1:1-2:10.
Who are the key players in this story? Who is in control?
What does it mean to have a "hedge" around Job (v. 10)? To have it removed?
How do you relate that to your personal situation? To our nation?
When have you been severely tested? How has that impacted you?
Go to John 11:1-44.
Who
is in control of this difficult situation (v. 4)? What does that mean to you?
Can you relate to Martha and Mary's implied, "Why didn't you come, Jesus?" In
what way?
How does Jesus' reaction to Mary (v. 33) give you insight into your
own situation?
What resulted from Lazarus' experience (v. 45)?
What positive results could come from your situation?
How did God turn it around for Job (Job 42:12)? For Lazarus and his sisters
(John 11:40-44)?
After all of Job's losses he responded by worshiping God. How will you choose
to give thanks and praise God?
As you experience Thanksgiving with your family and friends, here are ideas to help you celebrate God's work in your life and give thanks.
Invite someone who would otherwise be alone to be part of your family celebration.
Before dinner have different individuals read scripture verses about thanking God out loud. Suggested scriptures: 1 Chronicles 16:8-10 and 34, Psalm 100:1-5, Psalm 105:1-3, Psalm 118:28-29, 1 Corinthians 15:57, 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18.
Hold hands as you circle the dinner table and have each person in the group share one thing that they are thankful for.
